A while ago, I had accepted an offer to get a free machine (low power laser diode) and do a review. That video has had a surprisingly high view count. Since then I have declined a lot of offers. But there is something that I’ve wanted for a long time, and I think a lot of DIY-makers want one, if they don’t already have one, and that’s a galvo fiber laser. So, recently I did something I had never yet done: I reached out to manufacturers, asking for one in exchange for making videos, explaining about my YT channel, views, subscriber count and audience composition. I asked for a 50 watt unit. One respected manufacturer out of several, replied and asked if I would do the deal for a 30 watt unit, and I happily accepted. They sent not only the main machine unit but also their new 4-in-1 rotary. In coming months I will be making some videos about it. I try to always rejoice with you all on your successes, and I hope you feel the same. Just wanted to let you all know, as sharing good news in my life.
Looking forward to seeing the material you create, the projects you do, and an overall update on you.
@MakerJim Thanks! One project out of several that I hope for is to use repeated passes to create 3D shape / depth to create a “medallion” out of something metallic and that can be polished to a shine (such as maybe brass or bronze). I don’t even know enough details yet to know what’s possible, but I think that could be a success worth showing in video.
Looking forward to seeing your upcoming reviews and projects.
Congratulations on the successful outreach!
That should be cool. I have looked at those a few times. Can’t wait to see how it works out in your shop.
Congratulations Doug. I look forward to seeing your videos too. 3D engraving metal will be a lot of fun to see.
Awesome, Doug! Is it a standard galvo or mopa? Can you share yet which machine they are sending. I’ve been looking at these for some time now. The price has been the main hurdle but you can do some really unique things with it. Can’t wait to see what you come up with.
When I joined this forum two and a half years ago, I truly appreciated your supportive posts, your positive attitude, and your wide range of thoughtful and creative modifications for the Lowrider 3.
You’ve always provided very positive feedback and encouragement to new users. Your presence on the forum hasn’t been as strong recently, and I, for one, have missed your frequent contributions.
I hope that you’ll be posting your videos here, as well as on your YT channel. I know that they will be appreciated by many users here
Thanks for the kind words!
I hear you. It’s a combination of the stage of life I am in, with a lot of heartaches and challenges (some of which I am not at liberty to discuss), combined with fogginess of mind that has shaken my confidence. I’m doing my best to make it through and recover.
Thanks! I’ll get more info posted here soon.
Fantastic. When you do some coins and realise you need some sort of tumbler to polish them post lasering please share the files for your mostly 3d print and conduit solution, thanks in advance. ![]()
Very, Very sorry to hear! Take care of yourself.
So in the end you get to keep the laser?
Doing my best!
Yep!
Inlaid brass Catan set here we come!
Wow, that’s a thought.
Congrats on the big win! It is nice to see companies invest in the little guy for mutual benefit. I too have looked into this capability, but have not had the justification for the funds to pursue. I will be watching with interest and look forward to your findings.
Sounds like a similar process people use to make DIY watch dials. This is something I have been aspiring to but haven’t been able to try with a Fiber laser due to price/access.
I have a design for a watch dial I have been trying to make with my CNC but I don’t have the resolution and stiffness.
I would be happy to send you a CAD model for your testing purposes.
Dude, that sounds awesome. Please send the CAD model!
PM incoming….
Congratulations, Doug. Love your YT content and posts here. Praying for you.
Really looking forward to your posts about the laser.
