My LR4 "SkiNC"

Hello,

Here’s a few pictures of my LR4 aka “SkiNC”. I am borrowing the SkiNC name from JD from RedBarrel: SkiNC

The main constraints I had for building this machine were:

  1. Limited space in my basement
  2. Having a working surface on 2 m long

I ended up with a 300x2000 mm cutting area

The machine is primarily used for :

  1. Cutting the core
  2. Cutting the base and the tip/tails inserts with a dragknife
  3. Using a laser diode to cut the wood veneer for the topsheet
  4. I am considering to use the machine for core profileing but not sure how exactly (I will open a dedicated topic). For now I am using a jig with a handheld planer

Of course this the current state which I consider 99% done but you never know

Cheers

Mike

I love it. Your work definitely has me thinking about building my own skis. I just bought some ski blades used and wondered if I should have made my own .

You should! Disclaimer: might take a few wasted cores and other wasted materials before you have a first skiable pair of skis but happy to give advice.

I started to use vacuum pods on my SkiNC and they are a great upgrade. I printer these Vacuum Pods with PETG-HF and modified to have two holes to allow daisy chaining. I use the same vacuum pump I use to press the skid.

These look so much more easy to print than mine… Damn…

Very nice setup I like the series idea. Do you notice any loss of vac pulldown on the far end?

For now I only did 3 in a row and no issue with the last one.
