My First CNC - Germany / Munich

Hello!

To start a short introduction. 43, married with children and living near Munich in Germany and working in IT

My first attempt to start with CNC is now the Lowrider 4 for a cutting dimension of 650*1250mm to be able to cut half sheets from local stores. I first bought a used mpcnc burly but wanted to build the bigger one after few thoughts. The parts were first printed on my old Artillery Genius but got a Bambu Lab before printing the big parts. I chose black/dark green as I had these filaments already and like the combination. On the pictures it more looks like blue I guess.

Currently I’m waiting for the plates as well as the rails. But they will arrive soon

The cnc will be controlled by an Opencnc Shield Mini with Estlcam board and 542 stepper drivers. Software will be Estlcam and I am really looking forward to move the core for the first time

I just realized I am the plates problem… But since we talked in the woodworker forum you already know about the delay because of the missing holes… :expressionless_face:

No problem just telling waiting for some parts

Testing the holders for the rail with my 20mm holes. Cut some oak, put a screw-in nut and simply fixed with M4 screw.

Anything that could lead to issues with this idea?

What’s holding the plugs in place? Can they come loose over time?

I’m curious why you are you using so many holes in the spoil board. Is this for a vacuum table? If so, the holes along the Y rail seem unnecessary.

It looks to me like building an LR4 on an existing bench dog style workbench. Those are an array of holes for bench dogs/work holding.

Workholding with plastic pegs works soooo well and I wish I had that.

Yes current idea is to use one of my existing tables with the benchdog holes. This is some Kind of prototype and I would construct and print plastic parts that are safed from below the table

Thanks for your responses already

Something other than work bench comes to mind… :open_mouth:

Man, you must find it as funny as I do that nuts are called nuts. And grease nipples. Who names that stuff?

Well, I suppose that its better than “testicles and bolts”…

Long time no update.

Machine is now running and has done some small projects already. Also for new year

It is now run by Estlcam, OpenCNC Shield 2 Mini and five Stepperonline 542t. Maybe a bit overkill but have bought these parts in the beginning of my cnc “career” when I just wanted to build a small Mpcnc.

Cabling and some other stuff still need some tuning but I am already really happy and will build a new table soon for it as I want to have a dedicated one for it.

Best to all of you for the new year from Munich, Germany
