I just finished getting my drag chains set up and connected. That was the last step for me before I’m ready to do some testing. I’ll start with some 2D with a pen and go from there.
I like your control box mount!
Thanks, I designed that whole stand and then my son built it for me. I wasn’t sure of the dimensions for the control box at the time I designed it but it came out about as good as I could have hoped. I have adjustable feet on the front and castors on the back. So with that handle, I can easily move it around.
I was an electrician in a previous life, so I wired up the emergency stop switch (around the corner from the control box) to power down everything on the table and then have the two outlets controlled by the light switches. So I can, from there, energize the control box on one and then the router/laser or whatever on the other.
My first attempt started out good but then the pen was not lowering enough to touch the paper. In running it up and down, I noted binding in the Z direction, so I will need to adjust to fix that issue.
Leadscrew lube is life.
pen was not lowering enough to touch the paper
There is another common problem that results in this behavior. If lubing the lead screw does not solve the issue, take a look at your g-code. You want a G92 at the top of the file to set the current pen position as the origin of the job. The premade crown file has a G92, but files authored in Estlcam don’t have a G92 by default.
I had already done that. It was just some of the bolts were too tight. I used 3/4" rigid conduit, so things are a bit tight and I’ve needed to make adjustments. But I have it working now. I’ll post a video later tonight.
