My 7'x 7' dining room table

Back in 2019 I built a zenxy test table with the intention of replacing my dining room table…life happened and that project got abandoned…a few weeks ago I started again and pushing it to the finish line this week …I hope…

That is a new record. At least by area. What does it look like underneath?

Great job.

Oh neat idea with the glass bottom as well. I guess that keeps it ridges as well.

Very nice !!!

Sweet build!

Very nice build! I really need to improve my wood working skills.

I like the metal pieces framing the top glass. Is that picture frame material?

Glass is best for the bottom as it doesn’t change shape with changes in temperature and humidity (I tried 1/4" plywood and it warped like crazy). A steel ball rolling on glass is pretty noisy. I put a layer of white vinyl cloth (supposed to look like leather) on Arrakis 2.0 to minimize noise from the ball rolling. It also prevents see-though when the ball has gone over one area multiple times. I used a very large magnet (1" cube N52) and put an air gap between the magnet and the bottom of the table so the magnet wouldn’t drag on the glass and make noise.

If you really want to make it go, try servo motors instead of steppers. They are super quiet and can go VERY fast for erasing, edge motion, or even some patterns. I can push Arrakis 2.0 up to 1500 mm/sec. It could go even faster with larger pulleys.
