Well, it didn’t take me an entire year, but it is going on two months.

I finally got the cnc moved and mounted in the garage a week or two ago and went to check squareness last night. First I accidentally moved my z 10mm instead of 1mm, bending my Sharpie pen, which apparently renders them useless regardless of how new they are. Then, while I was trying to swap pens, I broke the pen mount. Printed a new mount last night.

Got to the garage right after work and checked squareness. I manually drew a 300x300mm square in 10mm moves, pausing to allow the pen to bleed a little bit giving me good spots to measure distance. Landed perfectly at the starting point, so, good so far! Then I divided the square into quadrants, and drew a 75mm square in one of the quadrants, starting at the origin.

Multiple point-to-point measurements along both axes were dead on at 10mm, 20mm, and 30mm. Opposite corner measurements on the 75mm square were equal using a caliper, so that’s about as close as I’m going to get for now. We’ll see what happens as I break it in. Cable management, router, and foam next!
