MPCNC vs LR4

Hello! Before I start printing any parts, I wanted to ask whether I should build the Mostly Printed CNC (MPCNC) or the LowRider 4 (LR4) from V1 Engineering.

From what I understand, the LR4 has a more rigid design and is better suited for larger workpieces, while the MPCNC is more compact and has a different approach to its frame and motion system. I’d like to know how much of a difference these design choices actually make in practice.

For those who have experience with either machine, how do they compare in terms of rigidity, accuracy, cutting performance, achievable speeds, working area, and overall reliability? Is the LR4 noticeably better at handling harder materials, deeper cuts, or more demanding projects, or does the MPCNC still hold its own?

I’m also curious about the practical differences in building and using them, including the amount of 3D printing required, assembly difficulty, maintenance, and any issues you’ve encountered with either design.

Since I haven’t started printing anything yet, I’d rather choose the right machine from the beginning. If you were starting a new build today, would you go with the LR4 over the MPCNC, and what would be the main reasons for your choice?

I’d appreciate any advice or firsthand experience. Thanks!

The LowRider 4 is better in pretty much every way than an MPCNC. The things that an MPCNC still does better are: Longer Z axis possibilities.

Outside of that, my advice to you is to build a LR4. The exceptions might be if you had a mostly complete MPCNC and just needed to finish it.

Im going to go LR4 for my next build. I love my MPCNC it has paid for itself many times over just needing to upgrade again to keep up. Should I build a 2 foot X or a 4 foot so I could go 4x4 or 4x8 later? I think I have seen this asked before.
