Move Forum To Discourse?

I didn’t have a pic at first. I think I uploaded it here a long time ago. I set up the new forum to.use gravatar, so I assumed the people who had images also had gravatar set up previously.

Picked up my gravatar, not the image I’d uploaded here.

Themes aren’t bleeding-eyeball bad, but will eventually need some TLC.

I’ll have to work with the category images a bit before passing final judgement. Maybe a different choice for images?

I haven’t spent a lot of time with it, yet. Is there a “Mark All Read” feature? My OCD claws at my brain when I see unread tags, so being able to clear them all for older topics would be a godsend.

I do like some of the features (at least, at first glance), but we’ll see how useful they truly are…

Cool! Thanks for poking around.

Yeah I like the idea of images but definitely something less obtrusive maybe.

Mark all read, it happens after 2 days automatically. it is an adjustment I can control but I am not sure about an actual user version. I have not spent all that long on the actual forum side, there are a million settings I have to look up.

I think there’s also a thing in the drop down in the upper right to mark at least those things unread.

Maybe the images should just be smaller? More like an icon than a picture?

Looks like you changed some of the category colors. Did you have to do that in some .css or was there a way in a dialog about the categories?

The image sizes are set in the theme, I think.

I started messing with the colors now that I know what they represent and are not just random…You have to set them in every single category separately. I was able to make the main category read only so no one can post to it generically.

The privileged levels seem a bit off but for the most part are going to separate the what people should have access to I think. Kinda cool. Tags seems like a real real cool feature. It lets privileged users set a tag, which in turn can be used to sort posts or threads, so it is like crowd sourcing the categories. So if some fusion tidbits show up in a build thread you can tag it and find it easier later. More so than the tags here in the old forums.

Awesome!

Yeah, They seem to have limits based on “reading” and visits, which don’t keep a history. It will be No Big Deal in 6 months. I don’t know how much effort you want to put in, but I was thinking you could remove some of those limits for the first 50 days and that might be a decent fix, but you’ll have to remember to turn them back up or tune them how you like later.

I am hoping some more stuff is still getting imported, this morning a bunch of likes related badges showed up in my account. So maybe the history will come in. If needed I can grant privileges if it is needed to get some people going, I think.

If anyone gets a chance can you tell me if the LR or Zen forums are over the top?

Yeah. In dark mode, They are unusable.

Did you see John’s question in the new forum?

“How were you able to reuse our passwords? Using the same salt between the two systems?”

Good question.

I had to use a new password. Maybe because I have another discourse account? Not sure.

I’m hoping the answer is not that our passwords were stored in plaintext! If they were it would be a good idea to force a password reset for all users as a part of the migration

That is the old theme, try the new dark one. Does it add to it or ruin the dark experience.

I replied over there. Just to try it out.

No, this backup is from my server and the database. Cut one set of hashes and plug it into the new system. Some would need to be reset but they did not tell me why that would be. I can enforce new stronger passwords. But I think with the other available logins we will be okay.

The picture as the background is a little busy, still kinda hard to read.

This is what it looks like to me:

That’s from my phone. The desktop looks a little better. But those images are super bright for my dark mode preference.

Gotcha, I will ditch em.

Ditch em for now, but maybe ponder the thought of color de-saturation and decreasing contrast. Then twiddle with brightness depending on the theme it’s for…

Its odd on my end they are behind everything and if I get it narrow enough it is gone all together. But yeah, maybe a dark black a nd white version would be nice for some flavor.
