Can I also use plywood for the YZ? I don‘t like MDF too much.
At a glance those parts appear serve only as shear panels for the structure correct? So yeah plywood is superior, and maybe even OSB (aka ‘engineered shear panel’). Since these materials are very non-isotropic compared to MDF, they end up more sensitive to the fastener schedule. In other words, they may need more screws around the perimeter to work better than MDF. The screw count can’t easily be changed on an LR. So not sure if it’s a better idea to just start with MDF, and cut alum panels before the MDF creeps bad enough to require replacement?
XY is the big one, not the XZ, so aluminium is out anyway. I have both materials here, will just try.
just to play devils advocate, someone here made all of the parts out of acrylic, looks awesome!!!
I meant YZ… Okay, thanks guys.
