hey all
so i read that its more stable the lower the router is .
so i want build a drop table
what is the lowest the z axis will go below the rollers / pipe rail ?
if i went 100mm below and had a 12mm mdf spoil board would i be able to cut say 18mm mdf
i do slad tables etc most slabs 50 - 60mm thick so wanting to be able to skim if need be but also do mdf / ply etc without changing to much on table
or would 50mm be enough
for some reason cant upload the drawing i did, hope this all makes sence
That depends on how long your endmill is. The machine doesn’t change if you make a drop table, that just allows for a longer endmill to be used.
The LR4 can actually do that without a drop table. If your surfacing bit is not too long you should be okay. The LR4 has 100-105mm of Z travel. So you should be fine.
I am interested in cutting foam. I can get a long cutter
What do you think is the maximum I could cut on a lowrider 100mm?
The maximum is half of the Z height, so roughly 50mm. If you need more, you need to make a drop table.
If I had Dan’s tall side plates. Would this give me a little extra?
If you are talking LR3, then yes. LR4 does not really have that option.
Could the v4 plates be build like the v3 tall plates?
Not easily.
The LR4 has a maximum cutting distance of about 105mm. More than that is not recommended at all. The Lowrider is not built for that.
If you want more stick with the LR3, it’s max is 80mm but there are taller plates. It really is not suited to cut at the top of that travel though.
105mm is perfect. So that’s standard
But you can only use half for cutting, because your endmill is there as well.
Don is asking about drop tables, in that case you can use every millimeter.
Nah, that was the other guy. Don hasn’t asked about it yet.
Oh shoot, good catch. Don you need a 50mm drop table to use all 100mm of cutting.
Always best to start your own thread so we keep the details straight.
I think I understand now. You need twice the max cut of lift so that you can get the tool out of the way to be able to move over the work
I made a fancy drawing earlier:
