LRV4 31mm tubeing

can 31.1mm tubing work for the lowrider v4?

No. That’s too far from 30 or 32. We have some people using 31.75 and that’s already the limit of the tolerances.

I would not recommend it.

It might work, with the 32mm parts. I believe that you would damage the 30mm parts assembling it.

I wpuld anticipate that the brace clamps would be difficult to tighten appropriately, with very little or no leeway between not tight enough, and too tight (cracked parts.) The Y rail may be able to move in the clamps, allowing some.inaccuracy while cutting. The core will have less adjustment available, again less leeway between too loose and too tight.

Maybe there is enough leeway there to let the machine work, but it’s definitely not guaranteed.

I use 31.75mm tubes (my callipers actually say 31.69mm) and the Y rails are looser than ideal. They do not move side to side, as far as I can tell, but rotate by hand. The core needs a bit of tension on the adjusting bolts. Not bad, but by comparison with the LR3 made with the designed size tubes, the injtial setup there had a bit of tension withnthe core straight off the printer with loose adjusting bolts. Also the brace clamps were a much closer fit.

From.this, I conclude that the slightly undersized tube takes away from the machine’s adjustability, and as the plastic parts creep (as they will) they will have a shorter lifespan before needing to be replaced. I believe that even smaller tubes will exabberate this even further.

So you might be able to make it work, but I would.not recommend.
