Finished upgrading from a LR3 to a LR4 and I’ve had it dancing around, the issue I’m having is when I’ve got the router homed in the X position (all the way to the left) and try to raise the Z axis the Z0 motor intermittently struggles to lift and makes an awful skipping noise.
I can give it a helping hand and its the lightest of touches, it goes up down all day long, also when the router is in the middle of the x axis its fine and if I move the router to the far side of X axis the Z1 motor has no trouble lifting up and down.
I’ve changed the motor, added more super lube, all the obvious things.
Did you check if zmin linear rails/xz plates are not binding and smooth?
Did you check your grubscrews(add some locktite)?
Doublecheck wiring/driver
Verify into the firmware for the Holding amps? I see some people using 0.5a
Yep I tried a new driver and double checked the wiring and there is no binding of the rails and plates they are very smooth running, ill add some locktite to the grub screws and I haven’t changed the holding amps I’ll give that a go and report back.
Unless you are using a much heavier router, the standard current settings should be working. That is, upping the current may mitigate your issue, but, if so, it may be hiding the real culprit.
I asked gim to check the current because some people are using 0.5amps with their router, it should be 0.7-0.8 also checking the z azis speed and slowing it down to 480mm/min max solves that.
My new builds are going to be working with more than 1 amps but i planned accordingly -some heat resistance from the filament used/active cooling witn server fans on the motors and active cooling for the drivers. But before adding the fans/and doing some hard (hard) working it must be able to do the same work -slower- but without failing (z axis precision is critical for me)
Can you post a high res picture of the YZ assembly on the side where the motor has trouble?
Is your Z Stub on that side installed with the cross screw in?
If so, I’m curious what happens with your machine if you pull the cross screw out and repeat the test.
I’ve tried it without the screw and it does the same thing, I’ve tried loads of super lube and it still does it.
Heres a video clip, its so sporadic it can do it when I’m jogging it up down, in the video its fine going up and down then I home it and you’ll here right at the very end of the clip.
Yep using the jackpot board and using all the latest config etc.
I think I may have found the problem, after changing pretty much everything the last thing was the copper nut on the leadscrew which I didn’t have a spare, it runs up down the leadscrew nice and freely but there must be an issue with it, I swapped them over and the exact problem occurred on the right hand side, new one ordered so will see if it sorts the problem.
