LR4 Stepper motor XY plate fitting issue

Hi,

I got the international kit and the printed parts from Philipp. I just started the build and I am facing an issue with the XY plate. When I have to insert the first Stepper motor it does not fit. It look like it is different from the ones shown in the tutorial. The back metal plate extrudes from the body to protect the pin to connect the cable. This metal extrusion does not allow the motor to fir in the casing. See pictures.

I am really lost on how to proceed here. Happy to provide more details if needed.

There used to be users who cut that out. Maybe Ryan changed the plates, let me check.

Argh, there are newer plates I missed for people who bought those motors…

Want me to print you new ones? I messed up there. You can also just cut the corner out and I’ll give you a discount. Up to you, both is fine with me, apologies.

Thanks Philipp. Let me try cutting the corners out. If it works I should be OK. If not I’ll contact you.

Thanks. I am really sorry, that should not have slipped by me since I basically live here.

There is a first time for everything. But knowing these forums, 3 people are probably having this issue today. It always comes in waves.

Yeah, it just bothers me I delivered the old ones and didn’t take enough care. I also have one more set here that’s done, and since they don’t work with the kit I can’t sell them blindly either.

There are newer plates modified for motors like that, true.

The motors supplied in Ryan’s previous kit do not need the modified plates, though.

Do the new international kits come with different motors than the previous V1 north america kits?

Edit: Apparently they do.

Yeah, I didn’t know that either. :frowning:

LDO kit so I assumed it would be LDO motors. First confirmation of that though. And I never would have thought about the clip on the motors and needing the new plates. Guess I should update my files at home as well

I managed to install the steppers by cutting the corners. Another issues that I found is that it is impossible to run the cables of the steppers through the keeper. So I broke one and I will probably broke the other one too. I will try to use duct tape to cover the cables. Is this something it has also been addressed in the new design?

Is that a 4 core insulated cable or have you added heatshrink?

Either way that’s why it’s not fitting, the slot is intended for flat ribbon cable

That’s how it came in the International bundle. I did not modified anything.

Are the cables connected to the motors directly or is there a plug?

How does the round cable turn into flat cable?

It’s a plug. The flat cable is the extension for YZ Max and X and it plugs into the round cable.

No, that didn’t change. The cables are really much too thick for it… If they came with the kit, @vicious1 has to adress it. @Mike_RS posted pictures of his kit here: New build LR V4 started Canberra Australia - #18 by Mike_RS , here you can see it also has the very thick cables: New build LR V4 started Canberra Australia - #22 by Mike_RS .

How did you solve it, @Mike_RS?

Can you remove the black shielding? There should be the “normal” cables beneath it.

What I did is removing the shielding just on the part that needs to slide under the keeper. But I agree it is not ideal as this came with the kit.

The stepper cables should not have the plastic cover on them. Sorry yours do. I will contact them I made this very clear in my last order.

The solution is just to remove them, it is just a plastic cover, and they are just going to make wire management harder.

Sorry for the issues, minor growing pain.

No worries. The machine is built. Tomorrow I’ll plug it in and test it out
