I have the Makita mount fitted to my LR4. In order to change tools I have to remove the router entirely from the mount in order to get the smaller of the two spanners onto the spindle (if that makes sense). Is there any way people have figured out to access this without removing the router from the mount? It seems trying to make tool changes mid-cut is going to be difficult otherwise.
I have a LR4 with a Makita. My router is low enough in the core mount that I can get both spinners on or press the button to lock the spindle. Can you not slide it down enough to do the same?
Yep, give me a minute.
And here we go. I’m assuming you have the dust shoe in place and you’re running the same router.
The dust shoe interferes with the router, it hangs up on the spindle lock.
Give it little clearance cut and your router should drop down further.
You might check out the Muscle Chuck - I posted about it a while ago.
Haven’t gotten that far on my LR4 build to verify that it still works cleanly, but I don’t expect any issues.
Thanks all, the dust shoe did have an indentation but I couldn’t reach the smaller wrench around the collet shaft. It turns out the red spindle lock button replaces that, you can just hold the lock in and then tighten the larger nut at the bottom. I wasn’t aware of what the red spindle lock did, guess I should have read the manual more thoroughly.
