LR4 installing strutplates issue

So after having moved and got a new workshop i finally got round to continueing (hopefully) finishing my LR4 built. I have cut my strut plates from HPL and it turns out that somehow there is a 2mm difference in length with my tubes.

So what is you guys recommendation …

  1. cut 2mm off the tubes

  2. cut new strutplates 2mm longer

  3. reprint the bracket 2mm thicker to the outside ?

Ideally, struts should be set back 0.5mm from the braces anyway… Being set back 1mm would be fine too…

  1. With 2mm being so close… I’d probably try to make the existing struts work by making the end mount holes slotted slightly (1mm on left and right side), whatever it takes so the pipe isn’t proud of the braces (otherwise pipe will push the YZ plates out of square). Then, fasten up snug, hopefully bolts don’t move. For extra assurance, you could fill the slotted holes with glue and probably be fine…

What Aza says, basically:
File down the bottom rail, the top rail does not matter.

I vote shorten the tube because you more likey need a tight fitting strut plate for increased gantry rigidity vs the lost 2 mm in x movement.

I cut down my tubes when this happened to me. I found that my belts were off. I had to adjust my steps to: steps_per_mm: 50.150.

You might have the same problem. I would check once you have it together.
