I want to buy and build this LowRider v4 and i am looking really forward to doing so, but i have some questions.
I am from Denmark (EU for those who dont know Denmark;) ) - and i see they link to a German shop where you can buy the build, but it is sold out for a long time..
So i was thinking of just buying it directly from the V1 store - its just gonna cost alot extra (taxes, danish taxes and shipping - total extra of around 400 dollars.. So 800-850 total for the kit and control board.
Anyone else from the EU and what did you do? Buy the parts individually or?
I will 3D print the parts myself.
Also any good tips, for something we might be needing when building or after - something that could make it all a little cooler!
since I am doing the business as a side-business next to my “real” job as a teacher, I have a limit of how much turnover (not net win) I can have per year (“Kleingewerbe” can have 25 000€, the actual winnings are much, much smaller). The LR kits add quite a lot of turnover (I had 30), so I am now very close to hitting this limit. If I go over it, the rules for a big business apply, which is a lot more paperwork (that I just can’t do) and more taxes on top of it. So regrettably I do not really have a choice here.
Additionally, the EU added new rules, the PPWR (Packaging & Packaging Waste Regulation - European Commission), which basically forces small businesses out of the European market. You have to have a person per country you are shipping to handling your recycling. Since I don’t have anyone, I’d need to pay a business in every country to do it for me. This is not possible for small businesses to pay, because those costs would be over the turnover we can actually make. The EU considers adding an exception for smaller businesses, but until this gets decided I can’t sell kits to the EU anyway.
So, TLDR: I am going to have new kits next year again, but maybe only for Germany (or you need to use a freight forwarder).
When I built my first Primo and LR3, I self sourced the material, even (illegally) the plates, because I didn’t know better. The plates are something I am always going to offer, because those are the only real dealbreaker when sourcing materials yourself and Ryan and I want to offer you a legal way of getting them cheap(ish) in the EU.
Ahhh, okay i see. That “sucks” that you are not allowed to do more - unless it becomes very tricky.. Love the project and idea! I have been looking at V1 machines for a couple of months now and my only problem is how much i want to build it now:-)
I will try and see if i can do as you say - self source the materials. Else i might have to just buy it from the direct shop:)
Then i might put a order in your shop - i see you have some of the other parts aswell.
The Control Board “Jackpot3” - is that just Elecrow to buy from?
Elecrow is much more affordable to buy from than to try and buy it from Ryan’s shop given the state of tarrifs and duties. EU warranty rules mean also that it’s impractical for Philipp to source them for EU community members.
