Hello everyone, i wanted to ask if anyone knows when new kits will be available for the upgrade from v3 to v4? Also is there any link where it shows what you actually need to print and any other thing that you need aside from the upgrade kit, emt rails, and new print parts.
I can’t say for sure, but I believe you need to print everything.
Greetings!
I’m not certain, but I bet @vicious1 has stopped stocking the LR3 to LR4 hardware kit because the initial rush of folks upgrading LR3s to LR4s has likely died down. Since I’ve pinged him, I bet he jumps in soon enough. Hopefully he’s out enjoying the holiday weekend, so it may be a few days.
You’ll need to print the full set of printed parts, there’s no printed part that carries over from LR3 to LR4.
Part of that depends on what your LR3 machine configuration is. Maybe you can refresh us on your machine, what power supply and controller you used, details about your table, etc.
One really awesome thing you do have is that you have a functional LR3, so you can do some prep work to help yourself out. You can use the strut plate calculator and cut yourself a set of strut plates, which will be a big time saver when you assemble your LR4.
Depending on the details of your LR3 build, I’m sure we would have plenty of further suggestions for you.
Note: You can likely self-source the upgrade kit, something like the following:
- M3x12 screws (wood or sheet metal)
- Lead screws (Amazon, 5mm longer than the V1 kit, but suitable) 2mm pitch, 4 start threads
- XZ plates from Ryan: LowRider 4 Aluminum XZ Plates – V1 Engineering Inc
The above is essentially the parts for the “LR3 to LR4 upgrade kit”
Thanks Jim, 100% correct.
The kits slowed to a crawl, so the Amazon links are the best option right now and they still help support the project.
You should post updated links, those I found by searching… they’re not your affiliate links. Post affiliate links somewhere and I’ll edit my post above.
MakerJim thanks for the replies. My situation is the following: I initially ordered all the parts to build the v3 like 3 years ago. The build was put on hold until now since I bought a house and had two children. I want to complete it now but saw that there is an upgrade to v4. I want to instead do the v4 now but unsure what I needed to buy and print. I have a 3d printer, so printing would not be a problem. Im unsure if the motors and all those things would be fine to use on the v4
This is what you need to upgrade your LR3 to the LR4:
1- Fresh set of aluminum LR4 XZ plates
39 - M3x10mm screws
2 - 145mm T8 lead screws
Optional, but you should really swap out your belts for a new set. You can reuse some of your old belt, but the lengths are slightly different, and you may or may not come up short.
The Calculator should tell you how much you need.
The LR4 uses 29.5mm (U.S. 1" EMT Conduit), 30mm, or 32mm OD rails. These are larger than the LR3 used!
