I’d like to be able to store my lowrider and table out of the way when I’m not using it. I’ve considered cable and pulleys to lift it but worry about poor design or execution and having the contraption crash to the ground. I came across a pretty affordable option from Home Depot and wonder if anyone has tried this, something similar, or designed their own lift system. https://www.homedepot.com/p/FLEXIMOUNTS-Lift-Series-Frame-48-in-W-x-48-in-D-x-15-in-79-in-H-Black-Adjustable-Height-Steel-Overhead-Garage-Storage-Rack-GL2FB-E/332766670?MERCH=REC-_-searchViewed-_-Garage%20lift-_-0-_-n/a-_-n/a-_-n/a-_-n/a-_-n/a
Any time I’m looking at that kind of “lifting for storage” solution, I always have a chain or cable or bar that “parks” the load so the lifting mechanism isn’t also responsible for permanently supporting the weight.
I’m using the same type of system for storing a couple of poker tables that I have (including one that I built with my LR3).
A couple of issues when using this for a LowRider come to mind:
- The table would have to be less than 48" wide (X axis) in order to fit between the suspending cables.
- The table would have to be sitting on solid legs when lowered, which may throw out any tramming and surfacing that you have previously done (cutting while suspended might cause a lot of swaying/oscillation)
- You would need to cover the table and LowRider with a drop cloth when stored, to prevent dust and debris from collecting
Good idea, that makes any of these solutions way safer.
Good things to keep in mind. In my case, I have the Doug Joseph style table on saw horses with leveling bolts on the top. Easy leveling whenever the table would be lowered into place. Depending on the setup, I wonder if the system may allow the cables to be angled out slightly more than 4’ to accommodate the width of the table.
No, the pulleys at the top are 48" apart. Positioning the attachments at the bottom at anything other than 48" apart would result in the cables binding or jumping out of the pulleys when the thing is lifted to the top.
I like your fiesta! Always interesting seeing the different makes our u.s. car makers make outside the u.s. My last job took me to Mexico and seeing the quote “chevy’s” there was interesting! And finding Mexico still making Vw bugs when no one else was! What a world!
