LowRider 4 - Dust collection from ceiling?

Although the LR4/3 is designed to route the dust collection hose along the rails and out to the side, has anyone tried bringing the hose down from the ceiling? Similar to what many do with the MPCNC.

Could this have any negative effects on the machine? Could it create problematic tension?

How would you attach the hose to the machine?

Could cable management become an issue?

I do it with a little boom arm. Works well.

Nice! Any pictures?

That’s how it’s implemented on the LR4:

Pic of the whole setup on the LR3, it didn’t change:

Thank you so much Philipp!

I have a flexible boom with a 4" hose above the LR. Perhaps overkill but it works well.

The hose connection is a magnetic coupling. Happy to share these printed parts if you want?

That is Awesome!

Here is what I did. So far it has worked perfect for me.

now that’s fancy!

Mine was just a simple swing arm on a couple cheap fence hinges.

I realy like this idea… It seems overkill. But it’s really cool! Do you have the plans for the flexible boom?

I really like the idea. But my pipe is 2 1/2"… Would I be able to adapt it? If so, I’m interested!

That’s a good idea. I don’t have such a large surface, so it’s not really applicable in my case. Do you have any link for the cable chain?

Sometimes keeping it simple is also very effective. It’s not impossible that I start with a version like this.

Christian, if you check the ID of your 2.5" pipe I can modify the magnetic coupling to suit.

That would be really kind of you!!! A diameter of 63.5mm would be perfect! That’s the size of the adapters I use, and they work very well. So the hose is probably a bit larger than that.

The flexible boom, did you design it yourself or find it online? I’d probably like to design my own version to fit the size of my hose.

I’ll take a look if i can find the link for the drag chain. It wasn’t anything special. Amazon has a lot of options

Christian can you message me via email? I can then email you STL files

The flexible boom is my own design. Was an early LR3 project cut from 6mm & 12mm MDF. Works for 4" hose but not 2.5".

But it looks like you could run 4" to the end of the boom, then put a magnetic connector on and drop 2.5" to the shoe. Very nice and elegant solution! I love it. That connector is awesome as well.
Do you alternate the magnet polarity to facilitate easier separation?

It’s more the parts to fit on the LR that I’m asking. But I think I have found something. This one : Lowrider 4 Drag Chain by Tigger09 | Download free STL model | Printables.com

Message Sent!

Nice! :+1: What do you have in the other end of the hose to provide the vacuum?

I just posted my 4" dust collection solution for the LR3 to Printables. I’m not sure what modifications are needed for the LR4, but you are free to update the model to fit your needs.
