Lowrider 4 Calculator feedback/edits/status

looks good to me now 1/16th is probably as fine of an increment that I would need for the rails. Thanks for fixing it. Next time I won’t have to use my own worksheet…

Realistically, most pipe cutters aren’t getting 1/32nd accuracy - I think it’s far better to round to 1/8 than to make people think they need to have a 47” pipe cut to within a mouse hair by hand.

Tolerance stack up.

If you measure to 1/8" and cut to 1/8", then you could end up worst case out by 1/4". You do need to get reasonably close to the same exact size, particularly for X if you say want to build the minimum possible size to make a desired usable cut space.

I guess what I’m saying is that in the context of a home built large format CNC, that is reasonably close. This measurement in no way impacts the precision of the finished machine, so it doesn’t need to be precise for most builds.

For the corner case where you absolutely need that extra 1/4” of cut width without potentially making your machine a hair wider, you’d be better off not using the calculator, and working backwards from your available space.

Hi Ryan,

I see you are selling the LR4 Kit. Are you going to sell a kit with printed parts?

Thanks
Justus

Printed parts kits will hopefully be available this afternoon.

Awesome, Thank you!

My guess is that 24.04 is doing the right thing by protecting the system python packages. We just don’t care because it isn’t a real ubuntu 24.04 machine…

Eventually, this fix (or a similar force to make ubuntu not care so much about self preservation) is going to be needed. Reverting to 22.04 is a good fix for now, and probably for a long time (until one of the tools stops working in 22.04, which could be a decade).

As much as I dislike not being up to date, this seemed okay considering what we are using it for. Obviously I have very little knowledge on this topic.

The version of ubuntu should not affect your build products. So the rollback is fine.

If it ever matters, it will be because platformio updates at some point to use gcc-something and it won’t be compatible with 22.04 and we will get a cryptic message and have to update. Nothing to worry about now. My guess is we have between 5 years and the heat death of the universe before that happens.
