Low Rider 4 Spinel

hi i want to ask somebody how has built th lr4 im new to this maschine but i want to build it

first question if you put in the makita spindel do you have contorl over the pwm? i want to use JP3 Board but want to know if i can switch the speed on the web interface or if i need to do it manually on the spindel it self

Question 2

dose somebody ever have used an other spindel like a small one just for cutting depron

i want a spindel thats quiet and not a loud one

i think i will use the LR4 just for depron and balsa wood maybe some thin plywood

i build and fly model Aeroplanes and i want to use the LR4 for cutting planes or motor mounts

Sorry for my bad English im from germanny…

Thank you for your replies

i Hope to hear from you soon.

and also intersting how do you 3d cut objects if seen a lot 3d things beeing milled wich software dou you use and is there any directions how to

hey daniel, welcome!

short answer is no. the standard approach only use the jackpot for movement of the machine, not controlling the router.
there is the option of using an iot or solid state relay to control the router.
deeper down the rabbit hole would be a spindle and vfd which would let you control the speed.

so usally everybody controlls the spped by hand

Yes, usually you just set the speed on the router manually. It’s really not a big deal. Technically, you can get a spindle that is controllable via gcode through the Jackpot, but that requires both a spindle and a VFD. It costs more and adds other complication. Sienci makes a Makita style router with speed control, but it’s aimed at the US/Canada market at 110v.

i looked trough aliexpress and found some interesting ones but i still try to estimate if i take a few more bucks in to my hands

i found a new makita 700 one for 100€ (114 USD) and the ali one is 20€ (23 USD)

i would like to try it just for fun but if you buy cheap you buy twice…

here is the ali one

I personally would not try anything that cheap. The problem is cheap ones may have really bad runout.

I think @Tokoloshe was using an AMB spindle? I think that may be controllable, but I think they are also quite expensive.

first, welcome.

how thick is the material you are working with? I only ask because maybe a laser is better suited for thin stuff. But most any trim router can work. There are lots of options to choose from. Seems like the community is mostly in a Makita or Dewalt, but that changes depending on good deals for new models. There was a time when Kobalt routers were the thing to use. For the most part though, they are all the same. You are going to want adjustable speed and a long cord. The speed adjustment on the router is set it once for the job and dont touch it again until the next job that requires a different speed. Controlling it from the computer isnt any easier since you still need to load the right bit and are already touching the router. There are some advantages to a VFD spindel that you can control from the computer, but those are far fewer than you think. The cost of a half way decent spindle doubles the cost of building the machine and makes setting it up significantly more difficult. If you had been running a CNC for years, I would be more tempted to suggest a spindle depending on your use, but you would also already know what you do and dont need. Just getting into these, you wont outgrow the router for a long time.

The best part is building it and learning how it works. Enjoy!

first of all think you all guys

i already have a laser but for Depron (foam) it dosent work well it is not good at accuracity when cutting foam because the foam burns diffrent every place

my laser is an atomstack a40 pro

so my chice for the LR4 is a mill head

the foam is usaly 2-12mm and the wood is 0.5-5mm thick

wich cam software do you use ?

ESTLCAM is the default we all kinda use. Its in the docs for building. There are others that some people use here and there, but ESTLCAM has a whole lot of function without being a massive program. I think the guys on here that use bigger programs, still use ESTLCAM when they can.

Yeah, either buy an AMB or stick to manual.

You also need an addon for the jackpot for controllable spindles.
