Hi all, Didnt change any settings and cuts started failing, was just a simple square cut out at 1.5mm steps and cut loads of them before but suddenly just failed. Started with chatter then the familiar crazy cutting before and emergency stop. However I discovered that the bearings were loose on the head and in fact the whole head had about a 3mm movement in/out away from the gantry. So Im assuming that that could have led to the chatter and bad cut.
Ultimately I suppost the question is regardless of tightening the bearings is if the head is supposed to be tight against the gantry with no movement up, down in or out ?
Also what Ive just discovered is that the gantry pipe, depending on how I twist it will allow the head to move in and out at difference positions along the x axis, is this normal and can I tighten it ?
Thanks Philip that answers my question then, there was a slight movement in and out of the core which think has happened over time with loose bearings it has vastlt improved with a little tightening however I couldnt remember if was supposed to have a little movement. Also however I think the heat here in the west of Scotland particularly in my shed is having an effect on the margins of things especially the steel tube on the gantry which at one end may allow movement in the core but at the other have none.
