Long term storage of MPCNC

I had an absolute blast building the MPCNC. It’s something that I really love to do, putting things together, upgrades, hacking it. For me, the journey is more fun than the destination.

However, I’m humbled by the learning curve of the software used to operate the CNC and lately I just don’t have the time. By software, I mean CAM, EstlCAM, F360, and all the other myriad of software. Maybe I’m just not wired for CAM.

My MPCNC is 24"x24" mounted on a 44"x44" board. Needless to say, it’s taking up a lot of space in my garage.

Should I disassemble it for long term storage? Can I store it fully-assembled by propping it up against a wall? Will it be outdated later if I decide to get back into it?

My MPCNC is mounted on a 2x4 sheet of MDF. I bolt it to my workbench when I use it

When not in use I have 2 holes drilled in the corners and hang it on the wall. It’s about all I want to lift but It’s doable. Not so sure if I’d attempt it for a 4x4 sheet of MDF like you have.

I did have to replace the foot screws with bolts as they pulled out on me. If I did it again I’d use 1/2 ply and add a connector the the Z Axis to allow for easy removal of the entire Z assembly.

What’s your cutting area? Another consideration is just getting my tubes cut down to a manageable size or even just buy new ones when I want to get into it again.

13x30. I could get 36 inches if I didn’t mount the control box to the top of the board.
