so I just read you are using freecad for your gcode??? Any problems there? Any Difficulties or maybe pointers? I think I only saw one other using free cad for cam or a post processor.

First let me say that with version 1.1 (hopefully being released sometimes H1 2026, but you can use RC1) the have introduced a lot of improvements on the CAM module. Second they have a big CAM project ongoing: https://github.com/orgs/FreeCAD/projects/21

This should improve the functionalities even further.

Now about my current usage: I am pretty happy with the gcode. My use cases are:

  • cutting out the core of my skis. Using a 6 mm endmill from 15 mm thick board
  • cutting out the different pieces of the mold from MDF plus profiling the different slats used to create the central camber
  • cut the base with the drag knife (this is where I faced the biggest issues but I managed to find workarounds)

I also use a laser diode but I generate the code with Inkscape and a dedicated plugin
