Lightburn and/or Fluidnc?

Hello everyone, I’m new here…

I have a question on Lightburn. Do I need to run Fludinc for CNC routing, or is Lightburn capable of running CNC as well? I don’t recall seeing a CNC option in Lightburn? I appreciate all of your help and thank you Ryan for allowing guys with “normal budgets” to get into CNC!!!

Greetings from one Jim to another!

Lightburn can drive a laser machine, and plenty here do that. For example, I have a JL1 laser engraver that I upgraded with a V1 Jackpot board, and it runs FluidNC. I run that laser with Lightburn.

Lightburn is working on a milling software package that is in beta testing, which is sort of “Lightburn for CNC”. It’s called MillMage.

Most folks running the CNC machines here use either Marlin or FluidNC, though we have folks running Duet boards with RepRap firmware, SKRs with Klipper, Arduinos with a variety of sw for the controller. Many more, too- lots of free spirits here.

For the CAM side of things, lots of V1 users run Estlcam- but again there are lots of options out there.

Tell the community what you’d like to do with your machines, and the folks here can help you all through whatever journey you want to take.

Welcome to the V1 community.

Thanks for the reply Jim!!!

Right now, I’m building an F-16 Flight Simulator 1:1 Cockpit. I only need flat cuts on MDF. I might venture on to other things in the future, but for now, that is my primary focus.

Wow! That sounds like a fun project. Many questions… I’m a fan of the F16 control interface with buttons ringing the avionics displays.

How big are these (trying to decide in my head if a lowrider or a MPCNC is a better match for you)

The cockpit “Tub” and Fuselage ribs are on a 4x8’ of 3/4" MDF. Yeah, The ICP “Integrated Control Panel” is basically the input for Steerpoints, Comms etc. I have about 15 different variations (none of which I like) from wood to plastic to 3d printed etc. The actual pit itself is 1:1 to the real F-16 C Block 50/52. Just cut off the back part of the plane behind the Aces II Ejection Seat and the nose cone, and you’re there. lol

You can check out www.Viperpits.org to see what us crazy people do. I’m “Boomer” on that forum.
