LED driver powers supplies,suitable?

There are LED driver power supplies on Aliexpress that are inexpensive and a very nice compact form factor, here’s an example https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005006012659800.html .
I’ve done a little bit of research that suggests they could be suitable for something like the MPCNC but this is WAY outside my area of expertise so I’m wondering if anyone here has experience or input regarding these PSUs?

As far as I can see they are 12V, I think most LEDs take 5V.

/Edit: nevermind, you want to use them for the MPCNC. A “normal” one does not cost much more.

What are you trying to power with those supplies?

Without testing cheap power supplies out, I would worry about how clean of power they output, if they can meet the stated current output, any voltage spikes when powered out, etc

Assuming you are powering the MPCNC, the one that comes in the kit is still pretty compact. MPCNC Build Kit - Primo Version – V1 Engineering Inc

Those are exactly the types of questions that I’m hoping someone here is able to address with respect to these type of power supplies.

They’re available in 12 or 24v and in wattage ratings ranging from 60 to 500w

We can’t guarantee it will work. But it looks fine. What controller are you using with it?

The controllers have their own power supply to convert from 12/24V and the drivers have their own supply for the motors to convert from constant voltage to constant current. So a little ripple is not a big deal (unlike audio equipment or something).

The issues we’ve had with PSUs in the past are the big ones sometimes don’t turn on when there is so little current. The small ones will reset when they get overloaded. I don’t think we have seen anything else that was really PSU specific.

The 60W should be fine for most setups. 24V if your controller can handle it.

If you are risk averse, get one we know works. If you want to try this, I don’t see any reason it wouldn’t work.

FYI, this says input: 190-240VAC 50Hz. You can’t use that in the US (not easily anyway).

I can’t believe I missed that, thanks! Anyways, there are other similar ones with an input voltage rating of 100-265VAC 50/60Hz however, those do seem to be a little more pricey and some of them specifically state they are to be used only for led lighting.

Here’s one https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005004757782984.html that says it can also be used for things other than led lighting .
