I may be one of the few that dont have the LCD controller. Almost all my jobs reqire a “temporary home point” that changes for each job since I use more than 1 bit for almost every job.
*Can this be accomplished with the LCD Controller? How easy?
Other than that, and being able to see my job in Repetier I shouldn’t need a PC.
Just judging from the votes on here I’m not alone. I like my PC screen. Besides, I bought a win 10 tablet just to run this machine so I’ll get over thinking I need the smart screen and keep going as is.
My MPCNC isn’t built yet, but I purchased an LCD so I could use it. But, I also have an old Dell tablet that runs windows 10. My end goal that I want to design a mount for the tablet, and use it for graphical control.
I bought the LCD and loaded up Ryans firmware and then changed over to GRBLMega5x and use CNC.js to control it. Works great. I like the graphics view of the PC screen.
I have been leery to use repetier for fear of overcomplicating things. I dont think this machine could be any simpler than an LCD and SD card. My only problem is the durability of SD cards. Is there an LCD that uses a thumb drive instead of an SD card?
When it all comes down to it, it’s the same thing internally. Usb complicates things, cause you need driver support, sd cards are just serial IO as far as the controller is concerned. I’ve hacked sd cards into linksys wrt routers using a chunk of desktop floppy drive cable as the reader. The fancy pants higher end controllers have usb support though.
I have a 2004 era Dell laptop (Designed for Windows XP, according to the sticker) running Windows 10 as my platform for the MPCNC. I put a stand on one corner of the table so it’s handy when standing next to the table.
