Lasers: Check your S-value max!

Running Lightburn, just did the default GRBL installation wizard when I got my laser a month or two ago.

I recently upgraded to a 10W Atomstack M50 laser after getting impatient with how slow the 5W it came with was. I was happy that it was twice as fast! But still, hours and many passes just to cut 3mm plywood.

After browsing around I came across a thread somewhere about the S-value max being set to 255. I verified that mine was set to 255 in device settings. But the thing is, it’s supposed to be 1000.

Tl;Dr is that I have been running my laser at around 1/4 power this whole time.

I wish I could get those hours back, but it’s like Christmas came early and I got a laser that’s nearly four times more powerful for free!!!

Pics show the material test, guess which one after I bumped up the s-value max to 1000?

So yeah, check that value if you haven’t.

The actual number doesn’t really matter, it just needs to match the firmware settings. So if it was 255 in both, you would still get full power.

But I agree check your settings!
