KTG LowRider v4 Complete (and tall!)

I imagine the height party will wear off after a few 4 x 8 sheets of 3/4” stuff… but as a tiny workshop designer/developer I saw too many good uses for the space that would also give some stray tool carts some natural homes.

Frame is just a bunch of 1.25” 14ga square tubing that I flux core welded with minimal overthinkage. I expected to have to add diagonal braces, but it feels very strong as long as I don’t get too carried away with monster trucking it around the basement so I think I will leave it as-is for the sake of sliding tool carts in and out.

This is #1 of 2 LR4 CNCs I am building in parallel. The other one will be portable for use in a very tiny space mobile workshop… printed with PETGCF to avoid melting in a hot trailer on the way to Arizona for a project. Those will go in a separate post once complete (I mis-cut a belt :man_facepalming:)

This one 5x9 (61x109) single piece of MDF to cut full 4 x 8 stock.

The MDF was sitting so stinking flat…

41” tall

Gap for setting stuff that gets in the way:

Overall it was a great first build, especially thanks to all of you for posting your photos so we could refer to them along the way!

I like the height! That will be nice to work with.

Yeah so far so good! I really like being able to use it as a standing desk.

 I’m too short, I would never be able to reach the middle!

 You would be screwed on my table. I think its about an inch taller and about a foot wider. I can reach just past the middle stretching out lol. But it’s nice to not have to bend over!

Maybe this is a feature. If I can’t reach part of the table, maybe it won’t collect other items.

Yeah I totally planned on putting this in the corner of the room. And quickly realized how bad of an idea that was. It’s tough to reach the middle.

I’m not short but I still need to climb on my table to reach the back…

Mine was supposed to be temporary, but now there’s height enough to store the (now rarely used) table saw underneath

That’s a sweet build!

Looks good!

Should be picking up a piece of 5x10 ultralight MDF tomorrow. Couldn’t find and 5x9 locally. Planning to do a similar table build. Thanks for the inspiration!

Yep 5 x 10 is what I went with as well. Had to cut it down. I’m not sure if it was ultralight or not, but something tells me that a 5 x 10 sheet of MDF will never be ultralight.

Yeah not sure of it being ultralight. But i think the regular was 150 lbs. The lite version is about 66lbs.

Holy crap that’s a huge difference

Where did you get the ultralight stuff from?

Keep us posted on those dinosaur experiments!

Ok not ultralight. I was misinformed. It’s labeled as ultralight but still 100lbs for a 5x10 3/4in. Able to order from Berco Redwood in Sacramento Ca. Picking up from wholesaler down the road at Royal Plywood.
