Katsu owners – What speeds do you use?

Hello there!

Quite a simple and fast question… Those of you who own and use a Katsu router (Makita clone) on your LR2: What speeds (0-6) are you usually using?

The dial on the router goes from 0-6. I have been having it set at 5-6 a lot, but I have started to notice that it is actually performing super well at around 3-4 when I cut through regular construction plywood (soft wood). Having it set higher (5-6) caused a lot of vibrations.

Would be interesting to hear

The correct feeds and speeds will depend on a number of factors including:

  • Type of material
  • Diameter of bit
  • Number of flutes on the bit
  • Feedrate used for moving the router

Carbide 3D has a table for their Makita clone using their 1/4" 2-flute router bits, and their table lists a setting of 3 for plywood.

Here is a video about feeds and speeds.
