I have built a couple machines before I have a MPCNC before that I built an LR3. I got to the point where I needed to put the gear’s on the first stepper motor and there are no grub screws or set screws to hold the gear in place. Normally they would be in the gear already but they are not and I don’t see any in the hardware baggies. Any help would be appreciated I am sure I can find some in town or take from the LR3 I have in a box I just want to make sure I am not seeing something or just being retarded it happens sometimes LOL. Am I over looking something? Are the screws supposed to be in the gears already? I’m just trying to figure out what is going on if I’m missing something or there was just a mistake just looking for some kind of advice or something I know this is simple issue.
Thank you for reading my way too long explanation and Ryan’s CNC’S kick ass.
Thank you for confirming what I thought. I have gotten at least 3 kits from Ryan and they were all shipped with the screws in the gear’s. They are in the smooth roller gear’s just not those. I guess I will have to steal them from an old project they should be the same.
Our local neighborhood hardware store (Ace) as well as one of our bigger-box stores (Menards) has drawers of specialty hardware which I know from personal experience include metric grub screws/set screws. Home Depot has some harware drawers too but I’ve never checked there for grub screws - the app shows some imperial in stock on the shelf but all the metric stuff is “ship to store.” They’re not inexpensive, but they are something you may be able to find locally if you don’t want to cannibalize another setup.
We had missing grub screws in the last batch, @vicious1 sent out a few before I caught the mistake when building one for a customer. Our supplier then sent the grub screws, so it might have been you were in that batch and the new screws never made it to your place.
If you want to source them yourself because it’s quicker: you need 4mm long ones.
I sent out an email to everyone I sent a kit to who was missing grub screws. The rest of the people who are missing them have not taken the paper out of the jackpot box to find the grub screw bag.
I can cross-reference your order number if you already checked the small white box with all the accessories in it (that is where the grub screws are).
Ok thank you I will check that out because you are right I have not looked in the jackpot box. And I want to make sure you know I am not trying to complain or ask for some to be shipped I can get them. I just wanted to know if I was missing something since all the other kits I have gotten from you were always complete. I asked mostly out of curiousity.
No worries. I have never had this question before and all the sudden I am getting several emails a week about it. So I have started packing the jackpot box differently.
I was deleting old emails and just came across an email from you explaining that some of the kits were missing the screws my order shipped around mid July I think. So you tried to warn me but I missed the email lol. Thank you for your help and for making such incredible machines for people that can not afford regular CNC machines.
This IS a regular machine. But I know what you mean. It’s an awesome machine at an incredible competitive price point and so great to learn the ropes with CNC machines.
