Jackpot3 startup issue

Hi, after a long stop I’m continuing the LR4 “Stubby” project, and I’m rebuilding the whole machine from zero.

I replaced the Jackpot 1 board with a JP3 bought from Elecrow.

steppers NEMA17 59Ncm from stepper online.

FluidNC 3.9.9, all the config files are stock from V1E.

Now the problem:

When I connect the 24v power supply it enters in protection mode. (Less than 5v output, pulsing).

If I disconnect the connector from the JP, let the power supply start up and than reconnect it, it works.

Also disconnecting one of the stepper (a random one, I’ve tested all), before the power up, seems to resolve.

I’ve tested different power supply units:

Mean well 24v 36w: it start, but a strange “vibration” comes for the steppers.

Mean Well 24v 60w: enters in protection if powered up when connected to the JP3.

Chinese 24v 150w: same as the 60w.

Chinese 24 360w: no problems. It works.

I also tried to replace the JP3 with the JP1 (same 3.9.9 fw) and it work ok with the 60w ps. (Not tested with the other PSs for now).

Seems that my JP3, on startup, does something that overload the PS. But I can’t figure out what.

In this picture the RJ11 is connected, but during testing I only connected the steppers, endstops and probe.

Do you have USB connected? Try disconnecting that and only using the power supply.

That’s not enough power. You need 60w or better for a LR

Yes, all the testing was made without usb connected

Yes, Was for testing purpose only, was not intended to run the cnc. The documentation says “36w+” so I tested it.
