Jackpot 5V Rail for Relay Module?

Has anyone added header pins to the 5V rail on the Jackpot? I’m considering it because I inherited a ton of these SainSmart relay modules, and wanted to try to create a makeshift spindle control (on/off) for my Kobalt router. I was going to use the GPIO.27 connectors for the input signal (saw the note that GPIO.26 can have a spike on startup, so definitely not using that), but still needed something to power the board itself. Power consumption should be minimal, so I’m hoping there isn’t a severe limitation on the current output on the rail.

I believe the current output is limited to 25mA max on the GPIO 26/27 5V out

Yep, saw that on those, and it should work since that’s just the input signal. But I was more talking about these pins.

You’ll need to look up the 5V voltage regulator specs. I do not remember off the top of my head.

Should be fine. Each relay will use 20-50mA off the 5V rail when turned on. There should be plenty enough overhead on the 5V rail to drive a few relays.

Ah, good call. Looks like TPS54360DDAR is a 3.5A max output. So probably just limited by power supply and PCB. Thanks!

You’d hit thermal limitations before that, I suspect, depending on a bunch of different variables. Regardless, tons of overhead for a few relays
