Is it possible to use Nema 23 Stepper withe my RAMBo Dual board Drivers?

Hello,
I byed : Mostly Printed CNC Parts Bundle - 6A / RAMBo Dual Firmware & Wire kit in V1 shop some years ago…
I would like to Know if the stepper drivers on this board will support Nema 23 instead of the Nema 17 that was included in this Kit?

I know that this small card with driver on board have power limit and can’t manage strong motors.

If not can you give me Some exemple of Board + external Driver Kit for nema 23 motors?

Thank you
Thierry

Rambo boards have the stepper driver soldered, so you cannot replace the drivers nor use external stepper drivers. The board used A4982 stepper drivers. You can find the datasheet here. According to the datasheet, they max out at 2A. If you are going to push these drivers near their current limits, I would suggest some work in both active and passive cooling. I also assume the 2A is for max current, not RMS, so you want to be careful of the current settings.

Other boards with replaceable stepper drivers (such as the SKR Pro board), can support external stepper drivers. This is one link to an adaptor. The cheapest external driver is the TB6600, which can be had for $7 to $10 USD. I remember at least two V1 builds that use these drivers, though they used them with NEMA 17 motors. They made the change to run their system at a much higher voltage.

Why do you believe you need NEMA23s?

Don’t buy those, they are loud.

Thank you it is what I thought.
Nema 23 are mostly around 4 to 6 amp…
I will have to change this board…

Because I would like to build an other cnc more strong based on alluminium structure with nema 23.
And I thought that I could keep my electronic stuff.

I‘d skip the aluminium stage and go straight for steel. :stuck_out_tongue:

I’m using these:
BIGTREETECH TMC5160T/TMC5160T Plus Stepper Motor Driver SPI Mode – Biqu Equipment
They come with a cable to plug them in to the driver sockets of the main controller board, with these I can run the Nema 23s at 48V whilst the main board and other steppers are still at 24V.

I just have 1 big fan covering the whole board without individual fans on each driver.

With what controller?

It’s a fysect spider, but any 3d printer board made for plug in drivers would work.
