I didn’t use any V1 CNC machines in this design but it only happened because of the ideas, knowledge, and help that float around in this forum.
The awesomeness of Ryan’s designs and the cool mods people model on top of that inspired me to start using fusion 360 more often. One member mentioned user defined parametric variables (or something similar) which made revising models so much easier and therefore more likely to try in the first place. So I designed all the case, lid, and indicator from scratch.
Various people talking about designing circuit boards made it seem like a feasible task. I downloaded Kicad and watched an hours worth of videos to get my first design ordered from JCPl.
Soldered it all up, badly, and pounded in the magnets to see it all work!
A bit bigger than I was expecting but I have the tools to make it smaller if I wish quite easily. Thanks for all the inspiration!
Reed switches on the circuit board (picked too short of a component but it works), LEDs, resistor, and cr2450 battery. Magnets for the lid snap and in the twirly indicator to activate the switches.
Nice big vicious circle. This project should now inspire others.

I can debunk the “mainly Michigan” portion. No relatives come from Michigan and all my relatives and majority of friends in Kentucky know how to play it; quite a few large euchre tournaments happen weekly. Same with at least northern Indiana but I live 30 mins south of Michigan so less of a difference there.
I had the exact same experience in the Marines, we taught pretty much my whole unit Euchre when we were sitting in the desert. A number of our Marines were from Wisconsin and even they had never heard of it. This was 2003, I agree things have changed and spread since then - maybe because of the service! Last I heard the world championship is in Wisconsin, which still sounds weird to me
I did run into some British Royal Marines at one point and they also knew it, though it was a slightly different way of playing it. So it isn’t just Michigan - but you will be hard pressed to find a Michigander who doesn’t know how to play!
I question this map… I’ve lived in CO my whole life and of those card games, the most common I’ve played or seen played are: hearts, spades, euchre, pitch.
Rummy (and many variants including 65), hand and foot, and cribbage are also super popular here. Plus the kiddo games like old maid, go fish, memory, and war.
I could easily see that my college or town has a bubble and is self consistent, but different than statewide. I just wonder where the data for those maps came from.
I played a bunch of euchre on yahoo games back in the day. But we played 100x more spades. I love spades. Hearts was installed on Windows machines. So I would guess everyone knows that.
