Inexpensive spindle?

I came across this; https://diycnc.ca/?product=dc110v-800w-spindle $90 Cdn for an 800w ER16 spindle with power supply seems almost too cheap. Any thought or comments?

Pretty cheap. $63ish usd. I’m not sure what a good wattage for this machine is.

One of the reasons I asked is that 800 watts is about the same power draw as the very popular Makita RT0701c trim router.

I used to have something similar to that. It got runouty after a year or so.

Good to know. Any idea how difficult it would be to replace the bearings when that happens?

I don’t.

My original spindle was something like that (exact same housing and controller but black instead of chromed). It’s not closed loop control so that 800W is at max RPM and bogging hard while also being what I would say is extremely optimistic.

Mine also never worked well at all because something was wrong with the collet extension. Either it wasn’t ground properly or wasn’t bored for the motor shaft end properly. It didn’t have much runout at the face of the collet but the tool wasn’t in line with the axis of rotation so the sharp tip of an engraving tool would follow a 0.5mm circle instead of making a point. It made it impossible to engrave with it and made the cutting performance pretty poor.

From my experience I’d say it’s probably okay-ish if you’re not planning to push anything, but a trim router is probably at least 10x more real-world usable power.
