This just started happening and my first guess is static. Is there a way to ground the jackpot or a better way to keep this from happening but still using the same outlet?
Yes, static. Run a ground wire through the vac hose, or wrap the outside with a drain wire, tie that to a good ground (Not to the jackpot!). Static dissipateive (anti-static) shop vac hoses are also a thing sold commercially.
