My z axis T8 rod is too long. any good ideas on how to cut it?
I cut mine with a portable metal cutting bandsaw, but use whatever you have handy. Hacksaw, dremel, grinder, etc. No need to worry about cleaning up the cut end too much, it will be inside the coupler.
i chucked it in my little lathe and cut it with a hack saw close to the chuck as a guide. Then I turned the end flat with a carbide bit and lastly used a file to round over the end with is still chucked in the lathe and turning. Worked like a charm.
Now who’s showing off. ?
I used a hacksaw till I got far enough through that I could bend it back and forth till it snapped off (used a pair of pliers for that part). Ugly, but seems to work fine. Sadly I had already mounted mine and I didn’t want to tear down my Z axis at that point
grinder will make a quick cut and dremel can also do it but slow.
Who me?
It actually just hit me to do it that way after I sent the post and was waiting for an answer. I figured right or wrong I’m going for it! LOL
That’s the spirit! I think sometimes we over think what we are trying to do and end up suffering from analysis paralysis. You just have to dive in and start cutting things and if something breaks along the way, most of what we are using is cheap with the MPCNC, so just replace or reprint and don’t do it that way next time.
So true!
