I need help figuring out how to select an individual part from a DXF file, move it to another file and make multiple copies of that part for use by Estlcam. It looks like this could be done in Fusion 360, but the learning curve is pretty steep. I’m hoping someone has an easier way to do this.
You can:
- Import it into estlcam
- Make your toolpath
- Copy and repeat the toolpath in a pattern
Or, try librecad. It is very much like the old school autocad. Not terribly user friendly, but you can just select and copy and paste stuff.
You could also import the DXF into inkscape and manipulate it that way.
Can’t you open the file, then import the file as many times as you want copied.
Jeff’s suggestion of copying the tool path seems like the least amount of work.
Both ways work Jeff’s way is faster the other you have to make tool paths separately
In ESTLCAM there is a grid option. You can copy the tool path as many times as it will fit on your workspace.
Thanks for the quick replies guys. Jeff’s method works great. For some reason I was thinking that I needed a file with just the object I wanted to cut, but of course, Estlcam just ignores anything that hasn’t been given a tool path. I built this MPCNC 6 months ago and never got past the “Crown” drawing stage. Now I’ve decided to use it to make model airplane parts from outerzone.co.uk plans. I may step up to a laser at some point but for now I’m going to go the carving route. I do still need to find an easy-to-use free cad program to clean up or make modifications to the drawings. I’ll have a look at inkscape.
I forgot about that website. I used to want to build a few of those planes when I was still flying airplanes.
