Just curious what everybody's preferred method to mask carves to be painted. I carve through polycrilic but it sucks to apply without a spray booth.
I have been using Oracal Oramask 813 Stencil film. I cover the project with the film and then do my carving.
I then spray the carving with clear polyurethane to stop the pant from beading into the wood. This is a real important step.
After the polyurethane drys I then use spray paint to paint the carving. When done painting I remove the mask and the sand before applying a clear coat.
This it the process I used with this sign.

I will have to try that. I have found an acrilyc paint named Cheep, it is very thick like axle grease and doesn’t bleed at all.
