I watched a bunch of build videos this morning. The one that stood out was using hardware store heat lamps instead of making your own. That seems legit. Bunch of youtube videos with all sorts of ideas. I think a mashup of a few might be nice.

I worked on a project for a while and we did several types of material and inserts and stuff. Versatile but sort of wasteful.

I’ve made “ovens” for curing epoxy layups, of foil backed foam with a bar heater connected to a simple reptile thermostat to regulate temp - would easily get to acrylic bending temps.

I made two already, it’s not that hard, but does only really work for sheets.

I am actually printing my third clear pla case. Playing with settings to see how clear I can get it.

Thank you for the offer though!

Well??? Which PLA did you end up going with? And is it actually coming out relatively clear?

I got some sunlu clear from amazon. I made a custom file with a 0.65mm wall. Testing print speeds now. 60% up to 110% So far no major difference.

It is super clear to close objects but the diffusion is insane with any sort of gap.

This one is almost done, Then I will try it one more time and share some pictures.

They can be pretty clear depending on the resin you use. Here is an example of a case I printed for a PCB I designed that turned out as clear as glass with a little processing work after the print.

Straight off the bed I sanded with some fine grit sand paper and shot it with a coat of clear and it turned out great. The downside to the resin I ended up going with was it has a bit of a yellow tinge to it and that shows on the corners but with the right resin and some very light post processing it can turn out amazing.

Ohhhhhhh I just found something.!!!

Put a dab of oil on it?

I have clear poly here and conformal coating. I want to go grab some regular clear paint. It is a huge difference.

Two quick coats of poly…turning yellow, but nice.

Fresh print.

I think clear spray paint will really help. Soooo close to what I want. Yes crystal clear would be awesome but the poly coated one is good enough if it wasn’t yellow.

Up close it looks real good. I could make some light tunnels and really make this pop.

LED light pipes really do enhance the visual appeal of one of these clear cases.

That looks much better than I thought it would, and I had very high hopes! Now I’m running around and looking for things to print clear!!!

I have used acrylic rather than poly “restoring” car headlights, and while it won’t last as long in the sun I think it’s easier to get great results and the yellow tint seems to be in the solvents.

Of course that might also be because I’m using el-cheapo product.

Are they abs based by chance ?

Here is some examples of clear resin I have done. I don’t have a uv chamber and the sun can really affect the yellowing.
