Guido rides again

Most of you won’t remember the saga of Guido, the inexpensive but crowned restaurant tabletop that I used for my LR3. While that was generally successful, it turns out it wasn’t quite large enough for my primary intended purpose, which was slab flattening for tabletops, as well as 2.5D carving.

Now comes the LR4 version, but with the external rails upon which the gantry rides eliminating the importance of the crown.

I still have to figure out the router wiring and my first attempt at dust collection failed because the hose was far too stiff.

But, I guess this photo gives a pretty good idea. The work area is planned to be 42" x 72". The spoilboard in this photo is from the LR3.

And this pic shows the gap due to Guido’s crown.

Good news is that all motors work correctly. All endstops function and are correct. I haven’t squared the machine yet, but since the controller is the SKR1.3 using the identical code to the LR3, we should be pretty close to making chips tomorrow.

(Finally, ignore the clutter. It’s a way of life in my 1000sf shop that also has the Burley- based laser and the Primo, not to mention the entire suite of stationary woodworking tools.)

Ride on, Guido… Ride on!

Hope you’re making chips again tomorrow.
