Grbl...well Grbl Esp32 and the 6 Pack controller

Resurrecting this thread. Ryan. After almost two years, how would you find this board? Im planning into building another LR2 or maybe a LR3 if it is revealed soon enough and going this route.

How would you compare it with the skr pro 1.2 ? I know they run different sauce/flavours but as i read this 6pack controller comes with its own interface web/wifi etc.

It is a great board and system, I just didn’t get to use it much I am always testing the boards I sell and support.

The SKR Pro is a great board. I like mine, but I do tire of sneakernet file transfers.

I have one of Bart’s boards for a laser, and one for a Zen table. The ESP32 GRBL implementation is pretty straight-forward and not difficult to use. Of course it is not V1 supported, but if you’re reasonably proficient at problem solving, there is no reason you can’t make it work. Understanding what role the controller plays in your machine is the key.

If you need instructions to follow, I would recommend the supported path, where everything is laid out in its place. If you can go off of the beaten path, get the mechanics from here, and separate out the control functions, this could be a nice alternative. The Wifi upload capability would be the thing for me, though the lack of a simple LCD is a bummer.

Full disclosure, I’m running Duet Wifi boatds on my V1 CNC machines. Wifi uploading, and LCD control to get the best of both worlds…

I have the skr in my machine. Im building another and was thinking about to use the bart 6pack into another build for use with a laser. Not only the wifi support but also the grbl is what calls me. It should be easier to handle (online and connected to the machine all the time, i will have a computer in site)

Edit: @vicious1 Cant wait to get my hands into the v3 LR :relaxed:

Grbl HAL can be installed on skr pro 1.2 /tmc 2209 uart. i had « helped » the developper to bring support for it.
I successfully succeded to move the motors but i didn’t found time go further with it yet

That should be interesting, but i plan to keep the skr as is and working in my actual build.

Just planning a new one and maybe thinking to build another one just like @tgm022861 thats looks beefy and reassign the existing one just for the diode laser engravings OR maybe I’ll just wait the LR3 to play with it. Also thinking to buy a full 48x96 co2 laser kit (100-150w)

This should be doable in the LR 2 with “ease” i have my Y axis already tracked
