First CNC contact Build 28"x 40" - MPCNC

Hi guys

First of all I dont know how I found this site but I must say Im glad that I did. I bought PLA and Im ready to start printing parts.

I also found pipes here in my country so I will use 25mm stainless with 2mm wall thicknes.

Plan is to mill wood (hard and soft) and some smaller alu parts also. I`m thinking on 28" X 40" build volume. Maybe I will need to make me kabinet doors…

Before I order parts I have some qestions.

Is nema17 enough for my aplications? Since these motors are not so expensive there is a chance to buy nema23 but I`m not sure if this is not overkinl for “pipe machine”
Is there any need to buy 0.9° motors insted od 1.8° to get more resolution?

I have 2 3D printers and I will have MKS GENL board available with LV8729drivers (default current 0.8A, max 1.5A, all modes to 1/128 steps possible). Can I use this drivers?

MKS gen L board is working with Marlin 1.9 Firmware at the moment. Can I use this?

Since there are 32bit boards out there, is it better to use 32bit board insted? Like Lerdge-K board. Also not expensive, nice graphic UI, enough drivers spaces. One thing is not certain, Firmware is not open source so there is no option to make any bigger changes in code.

Thank you for your help!

And Ryan you deserve a medal for your contribution. I have not dealt with you yet but what I`m reading here…there is not many good people like you.

P.S. Sorry on my english, I have not learn it…

Hi, Welcome!

Yes

No

I am pretty sure you could, but you are on your own with your custom firmware.

Not at this time.

Thank you! Don’t worry my English is not that good either!

This guy, apologizing for his second (or is it 3rd? 4th?) language. I know a couple dozen words in Spanish, gets me around a restaurant kitchen well enough if everyone humors me (which is why I learned it).

I`m in planning…
I have Arduino mega2560 seating on my shelf doing nothing.
Ryan, can I use this board with expansion board with 5 removable drivers and your firmware?

I fount an snswer for that, sory, stil searching and planning.

Since I dont like one buton and dozen submenus,I`m searching on options with bigger touch screen.

Did anyone tried touch screen on arduino or maybe even raspery pi with touch screen controling drivers (directly or trough mega)?

Check out the V1Pi image created by Jeffeb3.

Check under the Software Development section too. There is a lengthy discussion about GRBL on ramps. I am running it and it works well.

I`m gatthering info…

Regarding HW - what about Z motor with built in lead screw?

Typically those with the built-in lead screw tend to have alignment issues. The flexible coupler we use alleviates that.
