First Build - Edge Lit Sign

I decided to tackle what was a big project for me, considering I didn’t have a clue as to what I was doing.

Learned a lot with this project.

What made this special for the recipient was that he had sent me a pic at one of his stops. I took that, vectorized it, and cleaned that up for engraving. Then I got a photo of his patch and vectorized it as well.

I practiced and practiced on 1/8" acrylic until I got the depths of cut the way I wanted them. I used different sizes of ball end mills to cut the sign.

The base was cut out of oak and an old plastic cutting board headed to the trash.

The three pieces were slotted for the acrylic and the led lights. The blue in the photo is saturated by the camera. It’s really much lighter and turned out looking great.

I hope this inspires someone else to engrave on plastic or acrylic.

Thanks Larry!

Very nice! What type of end mill did you use? End mill?
