Anyone upgraded from the DW660 to a purpose-built spindle and seen any real benefit? My wife is asking what I want for Christmas, and I’m considering a brushless 400W spindle with a hall sensor (https://www.amazon.com/SUNWIN-24-60V-Brushless-Spindle-Driver/dp/B01M2YBX6F/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1480356152&sr=8-7&keywords=brushless+spindle).
That’s a nice setup. Looks like you’ll also need a 48v power supply, around $50.
I got this one: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01LNBOCDA/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1. It doesn’t have a speed sensor, but I think I can build one easily enough with an arduino. I haven’t set it up yet, but after a year of my 660 screaming at me, I’m looking forward to the quieter spindle!
