Fancy Bits

Wondering if anyone has purchased the IDC Woodcraft’s 1/4 Roughing bits The “Beast”? I am seeing on my feeds constantly! If you have it, can you run significantly faster roughing paths with it to make it worth the $$?

Thanks!

I think a few years ago it was the Badger or sth. I have been toying with the idea of getting a roughing endmill, but it’s just not worth it if you are only doing single parts and not full sheets without an ATC. The time you save cutting you lose changing the endmill… :stuck_out_tongue:

I am mostly doing 3D carves so I go from rouging to a tapered ball nose bit anyway. I am hoping to go faster without over stressing the rest of the hardware. I ran some tests at 10mm DOC, 1200 mm/min feed using a 1/4” 2 flute flat endmill and see too much deflection while slotting. Particularly when entering and exiting. I limit it to 6mm doc usually. If a new fancy bit can improve on that and get higher speeds I would be happy. Love to get over 2000 mm/min.

Unless you use a bit setter with collars.
