What are your thoughts on this 3D printed ER11 chip fan that slides over the collet? Is it ineffective? Unnecessary with dust extraction? They offer a free .stl so I’m curious if anyone has tried it.
I have used a simular one on my milo cnc mill when I mill wood, it works well for clearing away the chips but it ends up everywhere which is fine on the cnc mill as its enclosed. It will make a mess of your shop.
Have you tried it while cutting metal? I’m thinking of using it mainly for keeping aluminum chips out of slots I’ll be cutting, but mainly to be a cheap skate and avoid having to attach dust extraction/air blast.
It’ll be the same, it’s going to blow chips all over the place.
Yes I used the fan to clear ally chips as well before I got an air blower for it, they work very well. I still use one on the mill when I get fedup of the compressor starting up.
Excellent! I don’t want to have to set up a compressor or vacuum every time I set up my machine. Looks like a great solution for my use case, but once I’m in a shop/garage, I’ll probably go to vacuum/compressor. I appreciate the helpful insight.
Thanks for the confirmation. Fortunately I don’t have to worry about that at this point since I’m going to be cutting outdoors. But in a shop setting I’ll use a vacuum/Compressor.
Could it be an issue with chips flying onto the rails and getting into the bearings of the MPCNC?
shouldn’t hurt the bearings, but make sure they can’t get to the control board.
Point taken! Thanks for the heads up, good looking out.
