End mill starter pack?

I’ve heard good things about v1 end mill pack but it’s been out of stock for awhile. I have a stock notification so I don’t think I’ve missed when they become available.

Any idea when this will be back in stock?

Or is there another recommendation for CNC beginners?

Drillman1 on Ebay is great!

I searched ebay and didn’t get any search results. Do you have a link?

Wow, there are a lot of choices from that seller. Any suggestions for a good starter kit? Ideally something with a vcarve bit. I’ve got the carbide router with 1/2 & 1/8 collets.

Wish he was UK based :frowning:

You can look at Ryans store, and try to find similar bits. And you can go to the store (https://www.ebay.com/str/carbideplus) and search among the items, for example this query: https://www.ebay.com/str/carbideplus?_bkw=single+flute

For starting out, consider the cheapest mills you can find (hqmaster on Amazon is a great value). Hurts less when you break or smoke them. When you are ready to start pushing, get some higher quality mills and feel confident you aren’t going to burn them up.
That said, either way you’ll want some 1/8 flat single flutes and ball nose (I’ve only found ball nose in 2+flutes). Vbits are great if you plan on engraving, maybe some smaller ball nose if you want to do smaller relief carvings and get great details. But that 1/8flat is my workhorse.
Unless you are jumping into aluminum. Skip the cheap ones and go straight for the kyocera. Drillman has them, and they are the same as the short single flute in the shop. They’ll pay for themselves even if you break a couple.

I will respectfully disagree, and suggest that the first bits you get should be known good quality, so you know what to expect. Besides, you are trying a new machine and if there are any issues with the bits, you won’t know for sure which part is causing it. I would start with bits from Ryan’s shop, specifically the single flut upcut 1/8" bit. That is a great starting bit. Then experiment with amazon or other sources. Just because if you know Ryan’s bit works for something, and another doesn’t, you know exactly where the problem is. They aren’t terribly expensive (like if you tried to source them from rockler or something).

The v1 kit makes it easy and takes some of the complexity of choice out of the equation. @Ryan any word on new shipments?

I think they are due tomorrow. Fingers crossed. I bought every single flute that was available.

I am draining the account trying to stock up. Things are hard to get and take forever these days. I just paid for 6X my usual stepper order as well…Gunna be an empty account for a while.

That’s a really good point, too. I guess the mpcnc is cheap enough to make up for it.
Most of my earliest mistakes were nothing to do with the machine at all, but my misunderstanding of exactly what I was doing. I think I had a dozen mistakes in before I even got around to cutting anything, and who knows how many after that, including running into screws and clamps.
That’s the perspective I had when I offered this up. Fortunately, I don’t have to honor a guarantee or warranty on any of my advice

Yea, I think I killed a dozen endmills by now. Always make sure you’re going to clear that hold down clamp when jogging the router out of the way…

You have to admit that it’s a little more exciting when you don’t…
