I have a bambu A1 with ams lite. On their maker website there was an enclosed to prevent humidity and it had little desicant bead holders. My wife is pretty strict about putting non food items in the oven. So no re activating the beads in the oven.We had a rice cooker that died( kids throwing silverware into when in the sink). So I tested it today. And it worked great at cooking out the moisture from the beads. 1 hour got it 90% recharge and I call that a win
That is a new one, I like it !
That is a great upcycle idea!
Someone just recently learned me that the blue indicating silica is coloured with cobalt chloride. Which is not good eating.
Not sure how much of a risk it really is but probably best to side with your wife on this one. Nice upcycle ![]()
We just got a fancy zojirushi rice cooker. Our old one should be useful for this. I’m glad I saved it.
I used the steam setting on my instapot rice cooker
That’s a good thing to be strict about!
Using an old unusable rice cooker is an excellent idea, I’m going to be on the lookout for one.
Yep.
Folks, there’s a MUCH better option for dessicant: Activated Alumina
Please don’t poison yourself or your family with sketchy dessicant.
Probably don’t eat that either, though ![]()
It’s unfortunate though that they don’t make activated alumina with an indicator dye. I’ve seen activated alumina air drying systems (not for filament), that have a small clear vial of indicating silica desiccant on the outlet to let you know when it’s time to recharge your alumina.
I just watch the crappy hygrothermograph that is in with the filament, and when it starts creeping up past 10% then I know it’s time to swap out the dessicant and recondition. I can get away with that because it is dry here. Very dry.
That alumina looks pretty good. I think I have to give some a try. There are a few inexpensive options.
I picked up some a little while ago when @MakerJim mentioned it in another thread. I haven’t put it in a ton of stuff yet, but I do have it in both of my Qidi boxes in some extended desiccant mounts and it seems to be doing well. It would be quite expensive to swap out all of my dry tote storage to that but I might as I need more.
there are a few deal on Amazon $40 for 7lbs. that seems pretty good.
Yeah. But when you have 5-6 totes with it covering the bottom that 7lbs doesn’t go far ![]()
